Their simplicity means using them won't break your flow, and getting good at a delay with only a few controls will help you learn and know what you're actually doing to the sound when you reach for an EchoBoy or PSP 85. FabFilter Twin2 is a great synth and, obviously, Waves does not offer any. Waves SuperTap or H-Delay are better in that respect IMO. So don't forget those simple delays, flangers, choruses, doublers, etc, that come with our DAW. Timeless (delay) is a very flexible delay with a ton of modulation capabilites - its a bit overkill for basic delay needs, though, and is better as a sound design effect, rather than a bread-n-butter delay IMO. Again, these are generalizations: I really like them both and can get either to almost any result.Īn earlier poster mentioned EchoBoy being "too" deep and he always got lost enjoying it and losing 2 hours. Maybe you could say EchoBoy results tend to sit in the mix while PSP 85 sounds tend to cut through the mix.

#Fabfilter timeless 2 vs h delay Patch
I also wanted to explore a more 'horizontal' approach for patch design.

It's hard to compete with Echoboy though- it is so much more comprehensive as a delay plug-in than FabFilter's timeless- and it has a price tag to match. My goal was to create a simple, intuitive and user-friendly approach to synthesis, encouraging making your own patches instead of using presets. Sonically, EchoBoy tends towards the warm I seems to end up clear and crisp on the PSP 85 more often (PSP are incredibly good DSP programmers). FabFilter is miles ahead in terms of GUI and preset handling- which I think is important for workflow- and they still sound very, very good.

Note that I am talking about ease of finding sounds - both are capable of subtle and extreme and everything in between and off to either side. If I had to describe the difference, I'd say it's easier to get more conventional sounding effects from EchoBoy and more attention-grabbing effects with PSP 85. The two UIs and design approaches are quite different, so I tend to to find it easier to find some sounds on one and some on the other. They both can sound amazing and do amazing things and are both very deep.
